2024 Pizona (CAINF)

Wildfire Status:

The Pizona wildfire, currently active in Mineral County, Nevada, has reached a size of 2,160 acres. As of June 29, 2024, firefighters have successfully established a 100% containment line despite the challenging terrain. The firefighting efforts have been bolstered by air resources performing water drops, and ground crews are conducting mop-up operations where necessary. The fire's behavior has been minimal, primarily smoldering with some isolated torching observed along the edges.

Firefighting resources are managed by Incident Commander Jayson Smith from the USDA Forest Service, with a total of 168 personnel actively working on the incident. The fire originated on June 26, 2024, and is situated east of Adobe Valley. The containment efforts are progressing well, with an estimated containment date set for July 4, 2024. The fuels involved include timber litter and understory, as well as brush up to two feet in height.

Current weather conditions pose challenges to fire management, with temperatures reported to be well above average. While there are no significant weather concerns that would exacerbate the fire situation, the high temperatures require continued vigilance from response teams. Fire agencies remain focused on mopping up hot spots and ensuring no flare-ups occur as they work towards full containment.
