2023 Grapevine Fire (AZPNF)

Wildfire Status:

The 2023 Grapevine Fire, located on the south side of Mingus Mountain in the Verde Ranger District, was reported on July 21, 2023. The fire has now reached a size of 1,049 acres with 100% of the perimeter contained. The estimated containment date is August 23, 2023. The fire behavior has been minimal recently, with limited fuels available to burn in the area. Live fuel moistures have increased due to recent precipitation, while dead fuel moistures are expected to decline with forecasted hot and dry weather. The current response includes 120 personnel on the scene, monitoring the fire perimeter and completing remaining incident objectives. The Incident Management Team will transition to a Type IV team on August 4, 2023.

Weather conditions for the Grapevine Fire show no rain chances in the forecast, with temperatures rising into the 90s and no significant rain expected over the weekend. As the monsoonal moisture leaves the area, warmer and drier weather is anticipated, leading to declining fuel moisture values and increased fire spread potential. The response strategy includes efficient demobilization of resources and ongoing monitoring of the fire perimeter. The fire agencies are prepared for the transition to a Type IV Incident Management Team and are focusing on completing all remaining incident objectives.
