Wildfire Status:

The Rose Fire, which ignited on June 12, 2024, in the Hassayampa Riverbed near Wickenburg, Arizona, is now fully contained at 166 acres. The fire was fueled by hot, dry, and windy conditions, leading to its rapid spread across salt cedar, grass, and brush. Initially, the fire crossed the US 60 highway, prompting significant firefighting efforts that included aerial support from various aircraft. While the fire destroyed 15 structures, including seven primary residences and several vehicles, firefighters were able to suppress additional spot fires that threatened to expand the blaze.

Currently, the fire is 100% contained, and the Hassaymapa River Preserve has reopened to the public as of June 19. The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management has been proactive in managing the incident, and they have requested financial assistance from FEMA to help cover suppression costs, which has been approved. The grant can cover up to 75% of the costs, with the state responsible for the remaining amount.

Despite the containment, concerns remain regarding the aftermath of the fire. Gas service is still interrupted for some residents on the south side of the affected area. Weather conditions continue to pose challenges, with an excessive heat warning issued for the region, emphasizing the need for ongoing vigilance in fire management practices. The response from firefighting crews has been commendable, with a total of 35 personnel currently on the ground to ensure safety and monitor for any potential flare-ups.
