Rose Fire (AZA4S)

Wildfire Status:

The Rose Fire, which ignited on June 12, 2024, near Wickenburg, Arizona, is now 100% contained after burning through 166 acres. The fire was fueled by hot, dry, and windy conditions, leading to rapid fire spread, including a jump across the US 60 highway. Firefighters successfully contained spot fires that developed on the north flank, utilizing aerial support from various firefighting aircraft. Unfortunately, the fire resulted in the destruction of 15 structures, including seven primary residences, as well as several vehicles and trailers.

In response to the fire, the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management has actively engaged in suppression efforts, and as of June 19, the Hassaymapa River Preserve has reopened to the public. Furthermore, the department requested a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) from FEMA to help offset suppression costs, which was approved to cover up to 75% of the expenses. Currently, there are 35 personnel involved in the ongoing management of the aftermath, focusing on mopping up and ensuring safety in the affected areas.

Weather conditions remain a concern, with excessive heat warnings in effect for Wickenburg. The current outlook suggests continued hot and dry weather, which poses risks for potential flare-ups or new fire starts. Residents in the area are advised to stay vigilant and follow updates from local authorities regarding safety measures and fire-related information.
