La Bonte Fire
Wildfire Status:
The La Bonte Fire, located approximately 20 miles south of Douglas, Wyoming, has reached 100% containment as of September 27, 2024. Fire crews will transfer command to a local Type 5 Incident Commander, and while the fire is fully contained, monitoring efforts will continue. Firefighters will ensure that any remaining pockets of heat do not pose a threat to the containment lines, and smoke may still be visible from the interior of the fire.
Currently, the fire has burned an estimated 3,484 acres. With only nine personnel still assigned to the incident, planned actions focus on improving direct lines on the western flank and patrolling dozer lines to secure the perimeter. Preventing any further expansion of the fire, particularly to the west, is critical due to the challenging terrain and timber fuel types that could facilitate fire growth if containment fails.
Weather conditions remain favorable for containment efforts, allowing crews to effectively manage and monitor the situation. The fire's cause remains undetermined, and it originated on September 12, 2024. The overall focus for the coming days will be on mopping up and securing the fire's edge to prevent any resurgence.
