Leeds Creek (WYBTF)

Wildfire Status:

The Leeds Creek Fire, currently burning in the Bridger-Teton National Forest approximately 16 miles southwest of Dubois, Wyoming, has reached 780 acres in size and is 75% contained. The fire has benefitted from significant moisture over recent days, which has aided firefighting efforts. Fire crews are actively working to suppress the remaining hot spots and secure direct handlines, with the goal of full containment expected by August 31, 2024. Minimal fire activity has been reported, characterized by creeping and smoldering rather than active flames.

Fire management is being coordinated by Incident Commanders E. Hawes and K. Knapp, with a total of nine personnel currently assigned to the incident. A closure order for the Leeds Creek area, including roads and trails, has been enacted to ensure the safety of both the public and firefighting personnel, although Union Pass Road and the South Fork Fish Creek Trail remain open. A reroute for the Continental Divide Trail has also been established to accommodate these restrictions.

Weather conditions in the area are forecasted to include a chance of thunderstorms over the next few days, but elevated fire spread risks remain low. Fire officials are closely monitoring these weather patterns, as they could impact firefighting operations. As crews continue their work, they are also beginning suppression and repair activities to mitigate environmental damage caused by the fire.
