Leeds Creek (WYBTF)

Wildfire Status:

The Leeds Creek Fire, located approximately 16 miles southwest of Dubois, Wyoming, has currently burned 780 acres and is reported to be 75% contained. The fire has benefitted from significant moisture in recent days, which has aided firefighting efforts. Fire crews are actively suppressing the fire on the Pinedale Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest. The incident is being managed by Incident Commanders E. Hawes and K. Knapp, with a total of nine personnel assigned to the response.

In light of the fire's activity, a closure order has been implemented for the Leeds Creek area, including roads and trails, to ensure the safety of both the public and firefighting crews. While several routes remain open, such as Union Pass Road and South Fork Fish Creek Trail, a reroute has been established for the Continental Divide Trail. The fire's current behavior is characterized by minimal creeping and smoldering, reducing the immediate threat of spread.

Weather conditions are currently favorable for firefighting efforts, with only a slight chance of thunderstorms and higher gusts expected over the next few days. Fire officials are planning to secure direct handlines and commence suppression and repair work in the affected areas. The anticipated containment date is projected for August 31, 2024, as crews continue their diligent work to bring the fire under full control.
