Leeds Creek (WYBTF)

Wildfire Status:

The Leeds Creek Fire, currently affecting 780 acres in the Pinedale Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest, is now 75% contained as of August 20, 2024. Significant moisture in the area over the past few days has aided firefighting efforts, which are being conducted by a small team of nine personnel. Fire crews are focusing on securing direct handlines and initiating suppression and repair work as they work toward full containment, which is estimated for August 31, 2024.

In response to the fire, a closure order has been established for the Leeds Creek area, including roads and trails, to protect both public safety and the safety of firefighting personnel. However, Union Pass Road and the South Fork Fish Creek Trail remain accessible. Additionally, a reroute for the Continental Divide Trail has been implemented to accommodate the situation. The fire's activity has been minimal, characterized mainly by creeping and smoldering, which indicates the effectiveness of ongoing suppression efforts.

Weather conditions are currently favorable, with a minimal chance of fire spread anticipated. Over the next few days, there is a slight chance of thunderstorms, which could introduce higher gusts of wind, but the overall outlook remains positive with only minor concerns regarding fire activity. Fire management continues to monitor these conditions closely to ensure the safety of both personnel and the surrounding environment.
