Wild Goose Fire Active 2026

The Wild Goose Fire began on June 26, 2026 just south of Wild Goose Canyon on the Fishlake National Forest. It is located east of Holden and south of Scipio, Utah. The fire burned in mixed fuel types and steep terrain. The fire grew very quickly in the first 24 hours, prompting evacuations of nearby communities and a closure order on Fishlake National Forest.

In the first days of the incident, cooler temperatures allowed firefighters to actively engage the fire, installing containment and contingency lines before increased temperatures and heavier winds created critical fire weather conditions. 

Fuels are exceptionally dry for this time of year and contributed to extreme fire behavior, but the lines created in the first week of GBT7's tenure have held and largely curtailed fire spread. Since July 3, fire behavior has remained moderate. On July 10, all evacuation orders were lifted and the Fishlake National Forest Closure was reduced in size to reopen popular recreation areas to the south of the fire.

On July 11 at 1900, command of the fire transitioned back to a local Type 4 Incident Commander on the Fishlake National Forest.
