Latest update
The Modrite Fire, caused by a lightning strike, was discovered on July 17, 2026, and has burned approximately 57,594 acres southwest of Inchelium, Washington on Colville Agency lands. Fire suppression efforts have centered on structure protection along with community and firefighter safety. Persistent hot and dry weather, along with multiple Red Flag Warnings, influenced fire behavior and contributed to rapid growth in early August. After weeks of steady containment progress, the incident has now transitioned into monitoring pockets of unburned vegetation throughout the fire area. Crews are also focused on the critical repair phase, which includes addressing impacts from suppression activities and beginning repair to ensure community safety. A transfer of command from NW2 CIMT back to the local unit will occur the morning of Wednesday August 26, 2026. Updates to this page will only occur if substantial activity dictates.
