Little Giant Fire has burned 170,784 acres, burning 2 miles west of Granite Falls and has spread north.

Little Giant Fire: It was started by lightning on July 15, is located 30 miles NW of Leavenworth, WA. It is in the Chiwawa River drainage on the Wenatchee River Ranger District of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. It was originally estimated at 5 acres. Rappellers were dispatched for initial attack, and a 21-person initial attack crew arrived on July 17. Minimal aerial support was available to support firefighters on the ground. Due to winds and increased fire behavior, as well as poor access in steep, inaccessible country, all firefighters disengaged and hiked out on July 18. Warm weather, winds and low humidity have led to more active fire behavior since July 20th.
