The Flat Fire is a lightning-caused wildfire located approximately 9 miles southwest of Heber, Arizona within Navajo Count. The fire is currently estimated at 134 acres and is 83% contained. The incident will transition on June 29th at 6:00am from the White Mountain Zone Type 3 team to a Type 4 organization.
During the current operational period, fire activity remained minimal, consisting primarily of smoldering and creeping within the interior. Firefighters will continue mop up operations and perimeter patrols to secure containment lines and keep the fire within the established perimeter. Fuels consist primarily of medium logging slash, brush, and tall grasses.
A Red Flag Warning remains in effect through Sunday evening, with dry breezy conditions and near-critical fire weather expected to continue into next week. Gusty winds may produce interior flare ups and localized spotting potential over the next 72 hours; however, no current threat to communities, infrastructure, or other values at risk has been identified.
There has been no reported damage to structures or infrastructure, no civilian impacts. Approximately 192 personnel remain assigned to the incident in support of suppression and containment efforts.
Operational priorities remained focused on patrolling and securing the fire perimeter, completing mop-up where needed, implementing suppression repair, and maintaining containment.
