Cottonwood Fire Active 2026

The Cottonwood Fire started on June 22, 2026 and experienced rapid growth fueled by extremely dry fuels and weather conditions conducive to fire spread. 

Great Basin Complex Incident Management Team (CIMT) #4 took command of the Cottonwood Fire on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at 6:00 am.  CIMT #4 will continue to support the fire operations and carry forward work with the Beaver and Paiute County Sheriffs’ Offices and other cooperating agencies, particularly in evaluating existing closures and evacuations for reduction and reentry when conditions are safe enough for residents and the public. 

 Firefighters are working to minimize acres burned by constructing direct containment lines along the fire perimeter, and air resources continue to support firefighters on the ground with fire suppression objectives. Weather conditions, dry fuels, steep terrain, and limited access continue to be major factors as crews work to increase containment.
