Retreat (WASES)

Wildfire Status:

The Retreat Fire, currently active approximately 14 miles southwest of Naches, Washington, has seen significant progress in containment efforts, with 85% of its perimeter secured. The fire has affected over 45,600 acres since its ignition on July 23, 2024. The incident is being managed under a full suppression strategy, prioritizing the safety of both the public and firefighters. As of now, there are 228 personnel engaged in firefighting efforts, and the fire's cause remains under investigation.

Fire agencies, led by the California Interagency Incident Management Team 14 under Incident Commander James Snow, are executing strategic operations to control the blaze. As of August 19, 2024, command will transition back to local units, ensuring continued management and oversight. Fire closures are in effect, including the Ahtanum State Forest and significant portions of the Oak Creek Wildlife Area, to facilitate firefighting operations and ensure public safety. Weather conditions have been somewhat favorable for firefighting efforts, with recent moisture and rain events contributing to the reduction of potential fire spread. The situation remains dynamic, and firefighting teams continue to monitor the fire behavior closely while conducting mop-up operations and reinforcing containment lines.
