Retreat (WASES)

Wildfire Status:

The Retreat Fire, located approximately 14 miles southwest of Naches, Washington, is currently active and has burned an area of 45,601 acres. As of the latest reports, the fire is 85% contained, with firefighting efforts being managed under a full suppression strategy that prioritizes the safety of both the public and firefighters. The incident is being overseen by California Interagency Incident Management Team 14, which is set to transition command back to local units by August 19, 2024.

Firefighting personnel have been actively engaged, with a total of 228 personnel on site. The fuels involved in the fire include sage/grass, oak/grass, and mixed conifer and subalpine fir forests. The current weather conditions are showing signs of improvement, with moisture levels increasing and rainfall contributing to the reduction of fire activity. However, significant events still occur, as elevated temperatures and dry conditions at higher elevations contribute to isolated patches of active fire spread.

In response to the fire, several closures have been implemented to ensure public safety and facilitate firefighting operations. The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest has issued a fire closure, and Ahtanum State Forest is temporarily closed due to the proximity of the retreat fire near Rimrock Lake. Additionally, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife has restricted access to most of the Oak Creek Wildlife Area until August 23, 2024.
