Wildfire Status:
The Big Horn Fire, located near Bickleton in Klickitat County, Washington, began on July 22, 2024, and has now reached 100% containment. The fire has burned a total of 51,569 acres and is no longer actively spreading. The Southeast Washington Incident Management Team (SEWAIMT) initially took command of the fire but has since transitioned efforts back to local agencies as of July 30, 2024.
Currently, there are 103 personnel working on the fire, and the expected containment date is July 31, 2024. The fire was driven by windy and dry conditions, threatening residential areas, agricultural lands, critical infrastructure, and a natural gas plant. The fuels involved in the fire include short grass, brush, grass, juniper with mixed conifer, and sagebrush.
Weather concerns for the area include warming temperatures, with a projected high of 100 degrees by Friday. Fire agencies continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure the fire remains contained and does not pose any further threats to the surrounding areas.
