Babylon Fire Active 2026

The Babylon Fire, began on Friday, June 26, 2026, about 25 miles southwest of Monticello, Utah. The fires continued significant growth is driven by a combination of low humidity, extremely dry vegetation and at times gusty winds across the region. Firefighters are actively working to contain the blaze using a mix of direct suppression and indirect confinement strategies. Over 1,000 personnel are assigned to the fire.

Due to active firefighting operations from the Babylon Fire, extensive public land closures are now in effect to ensure public and firefighter safety. All Forest Service lands, roads, and trails within the Monticello Ranger District of the Manti-La Sal National Forest are strictly closed, alongside the entire Needles District of Canyonlands National Park. Additionally, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has closed all managed lands west of Harts Draw Road, extending north through the Indian Creek Corridor to Indian Creek Falls, which encompasses Shay Mesa, Beef Basin, Dark Canyon, and Sweet Alice. For your safety and the safety of emergency crews, the public is advised to completely avoid the Monticello Ranger District and stay clear of all BLM and Forest Service lands south of Highway 211, west of Highway 191, and north of Highway 95.
