Monroe Mountain (UTFIF)

Wildfire Status:

The Monroe Mountain wildfire, which was discovered on July 13, 2025, at approximately 2:22 PM, is currently active and has already burned through 8,646 acres of timber near the communities of Richfield, Monroe, and Koosharem, Utah. The fire has exhibited high to extreme activity, characterized by active surface spread, tree torching, and a significant risk of short to long-range crown runs along with medium-range spotting. As of now, the fire is completely uncontained, with 0% of its perimeter secured.

In response to the wildfire, Great Basin Team 3 has been deployed as a Complex Incident Management Team, taking command of suppression efforts as of 6:00 AM on July 16, 2025. A total of 250 personnel are currently engaged in firefighting operations, focusing on point protection and gathering situational awareness to plan for potential containment lines. The incident commander is Clay Matheson from the Fishlake National Forest.

Weather conditions are a major concern for firefighting efforts, with Red Flag warnings in effect. Southwest winds are expected to increase, reaching gusts of around 25 mph after noon, which could exacerbate fire activity. Additionally, there is a risk of isolated to scattered dry thunderstorms that could produce erratic outflow winds and lightning, although minimal rainfall is anticipated. The dry thunderstorm threat will diminish after 9 PM, but gusty winds will likely continue into the following day. Fire agencies are closely monitoring these weather patterns as they significantly affect containment strategies and overall fire behavior.
