Speirs Fire (UTASF)

Wildfire Status:

The Speirs Fire, located approximately three miles south of Dutch John, Utah, is now 100% contained and has transitioned into a monitoring and patrol phase. This wildfire, which began on July 13, 2024, around 1:00 PM due to lightning, burned a total area of 715 acres in challenging terrain characterized by heavy timber, downed timber, and grass understory. The rugged landscape posed difficulties for containment efforts initially, but fire agencies have successfully secured the perimeter, with no significant events reported since containment was achieved.

Fire response teams have been actively engaged in ensuring the fire's containment and monitoring for any potential flare-ups. The incident commander, Tom Wilson, has indicated that while most routes affected by the fire have reopened to the public, contingency work continues in extending the fire line towards Davenport Draw to mitigate any further risks. The efforts of the fire agencies have focused on maintaining the safety of the area while monitoring the fire's status.

Current weather conditions are favorable for containment, with expected low fire behavior during the day. However, there remains a concern for spotting in steep terrain due to potential rollout, and fire crews will continue to observe the situation closely.
