Red Gate Active 2026

The Red Gate Fire in Schleicher County started during the early afternoon of Monday, September 7, 2026. Texas A&M Forest Service was requested to provide assistance to local fire departments in the form of additional firefighters and heavy equipment and responded quickly. Texas A&M Forest Service continues to operate in unified command with local fire departments.

Update: 6:30 pm, Monday, September 7 - The fire's forward progression has been stopped. All bulldozers are currently constructing and improving firelines, but are slowed by rocky terrain. No fire departments are available to assist at this time due to high fire activity in two counties.
