Red Creek Fire (TXTXS)

Wildfire Status:

The Red Creek Fire, a wildfire with moderate activity in mesquite and grass, started on August 16th, 2024, approximately 12 miles southeast of Haskell, Texas. Local fire departments initially responded to the fire and requested assistance from Texas A&M Forest Service to provide additional engines, aviation, and heavy equipment due to the quickly-moving burn. As of the latest update, the fire has grown to 2,780 acres in size, with 100% of the perimeter contained. The fuels involved in the fire include heavy mesquite and grass.

The incident commander for the Red Creek Fire is Seth Morris from Texas A&M Forest Service. The current weather conditions include south to southwest winds around 10 mph that are expected to shift to the southeast early in the evening before returning back south. There may be a few gusts up to 15 mph, with highs around 105 degrees Fahrenheit and relative humidity values around 25 percent. Overnight, the relative humidity is expected to have limited recovery, with maximum values around 55 percent.

Fire agencies are actively responding to the Red Creek Fire to contain and control the wildfire. The weather conditions, including the wind direction and speed, as well as the high temperatures and low relative humidity, are factors that are being monitored closely to manage the fire effectively and ensure the safety of personnel involved in the firefighting efforts.
