Latest update
The Princess Fire started on September 29, 2025 in Polk County and was initially responded to by local fire departments. Texas A&M Forest Service was requested to provide assistance in the form of additional firefighters and heavy equipment at 1:30 pm and quickly responded. Texas A&M Forest Service is currently in unified command with local fire departments. Crews continue to construct containment lines around the outside of the fire with bulldozers. Aviation resources have been assigned to the fire.
The fire started during a period of underlying dryness primarily in drought cured grass and timber fuels as warm and dry conditions continue to combined to produce a fire environment supportive of significant fire activity.
There is a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) in place for the area over the Princess Fire [NOTAM: FDC 5/2543, https://tfr.faa.gov/tfr3/?page=detail_5_2543]. Please avoid the area to provide a safe environment for firefighting aircraft.
