Purple Monster Fire has burned 1,911 acres, burning 8 miles north of Vega.

The Purple Monster Fire started at approximately 5:20 PM April 9, 2026 and is located approximately 9 miles north of Vega, Texas. Texas A&M Forest Service was requested to provide assistance in the form of additional firefighters and heavy equipment.  Texas A&M Forest Service is in unified command with Vega Fire Department.  

4/10/26 - 3:45 AM - Forward progression of the fire has been stopped. Fire activity is low with lots of smokes. Dozers have completed line construction for this period. Pockets of unburned fuel remain near the head of the fire.  

4/10/2026 - 2:00 PM - Engines continue to patrol the fire's edge, especially at the head of the fire where the most heat is showing. A helicopter continues to make beneficial water drops. 

Firefighters will continue to mop-up and patrol the fire Saturday, April 11. 

The Purple Monster Fire is 100% contained (11:00 AM 4/11/26). There will be no further updates on this fire.
