Live Oak Fire Active 2026

The Live Oak Fire in Menard County started on September 2, 2026, under elevated fire conditions. Texas A&M Forest Service was requested to provide assistance in the form of additional firefighters, aircraft, heavy equipment at 4:15 pm. Texas A&M Forest Service is currently in unified command with local departments.

Update - 9/2/26 - 7:38 pm - Fire activity was initially moderate to high but has decreased significantly due to dropping temperatures and increasing humidity levels. Multiple local volunteer fire departments are assisting Texas A&M Forest Service with this fire. The head of the fire is checked up against a road. Beneficial air drops have helped, reenforcing from the heel of the fire up the left flank and into the head. On the right shoulder of the fire, firefighters are using strategic firing operations and have tied the containment into existing roads while dozers continue direct line construction.
