At 9:30 PM on Friday, May 15th, Texas A&M Forest Service received a request for assistance for a fire approximately 5 miles east of Northfield, Texas in Motley County. Texas A&M Forest Service crews are working in unified command with local resources. Moderate to high fire behavior due to weather conditions being observed.
May 17, 2026 Update (2:00 p.m.) - Firefighters conducted a successful burnout operation at the head of the fire today. This operation was conducted in an area of concern where unburned fuel was threatening the containment line. Firefighters are conducting mop-up on this area as well as mop-up and patrol of the fire perimeter.
As of 10:20 p.m. on May 17, the Comanche Fire is 100% contained. No state resources remain on the fire. This is the final report for the fire.
