Blue Diamond Fire has burned 741 acres, burning 13 miles south of Channing.
Latest update
The Blue Diamond Fire started at approximately 4:00 PM on May 17, 2026, approximately 29 miles northwest of Amarillo, TX and was initially responded to by local fire departments. Texas A&M Forest Service was requested to provide assistance with aircraft, heavy equipment and firefighters. The fire is currently in joint command between Texas A&M Forest Service and local firefighters.
May 17, 8:00 p.m. - Forward progression of the fire is stopped.
Update May 18, 8:00 a.m. - There are no visible smokes on the fire. Firefighters will mop-up and cold trail the right flank of the fire today where dozer line cannot be constructed. Where possible, dozers will be utilized.
FINAL UPDATE: As of 11:45 p.m. on May 18, 2026, the fire is 100% contained. All state resources are off of the fire. This is the final update for this fire.
