Wildfire Status:

The Devils Knob Fire, located approximately five miles southeast of Tiller, Oregon, has reached a size of 4,149 acres and is currently 86% contained. While fire activity has been minimal, there are still pockets of smoldering and creeping fire behavior, primarily in areas with unburned fuels. The incident, which started on September 5, 2024, is being managed by a Type 3 team led by Incident Commander Bill Neckels. There are currently 104 personnel assigned to the incident, focusing on monitoring and suppression repair efforts.

Weather conditions have played a significant role in the fire's behavior and suppression efforts. Recent trends indicate warmer temperatures and continued dry weather, with light to moderate winds facilitating the drying of fuels. However, the relative humidity is higher, which has helped maintain lower fire activity. The moisture levels in fuels have returned to normal for this time of year, contributing to a decrease in receptivity for dead and downed materials. The outlook for the next 24 hours suggests that while there may be increased smoke from interior consumption, the threat to containment remains low.

Looking forward, fire agencies plan to continue suppression repair operations across all divisions. While some progression may be observed in green islands due to the ongoing warm and dry conditions, no significant containment threats are anticipated. The expected weather conditions will support these efforts, enabling crews to maintain control over the fire as they work towards full containment by mid-October 2024.
