Wildfire Status:
The Tiger Creek Fire, located approximately 15 miles southeast of Walla Walla, WA, has reached a size of 534 acres and is currently 89% contained. As of October 21, 2024, the fire has shown minimal activity characterized by smoldering and creeping behavior, with isolated pockets of fire burning at slow rates. A decrease in fire activity is anticipated due to cooler temperatures and the potential for precipitation, which is expected to assist in containment efforts.
Firefighting efforts are being managed by the Umatilla National Forest following a recent transfer of command from California Interagency Complex Incident Management Team 15. A total of 250 personnel are currently engaged in the response, focusing on patrolling the area, mopping up hotspots, and conducting backhaul of excess equipment. All handlines are reported to be holding, and suppression repair tactics are being implemented as necessary.
Current weather conditions are contributing to the fire's behavior, with cloudy skies and windy conditions prevailing after the passage of a cold front.
