Tiger Creek Fire (ORUMF)

Wildfire Status:

The Tiger Creek Fire, located approximately 15 miles southeast of Walla Walla, WA, has been active since October 1, 2024, and currently covers an area of 534 acres. As of October 21, 2024, the fire is reported to be 89% contained, with a significant portion of the perimeter secured. The current fire behavior is minimal, characterized by smoldering, creeping, and backing, with isolated pockets burning at low surface levels. Fire agencies anticipate a decrease in activity due to favorable weather conditions, including cooler temperatures and a chance of precipitation.

The command of the fire response has recently transitioned back to the Umatilla National Forest from the California Interagency Complex Incident Management Team 15, as of October 16, 2024. Approximately 250 personnel are currently engaged in firefighting efforts, focusing on patrolling, mop-up operations, and the backhaul of excess equipment. The crew is also assessing and implementing suppression repair tactics to mitigate any further risks.

Weather conditions are currently having a positive impact on firefighting efforts. Following the passage of an early morning cold front, the area is experiencing cloudy and windy conditions with lingering showers. Temperatures are expected to remain steady in the 40s-50s throughout the day, with a second cold front anticipated to bring more showers and even snow at higher elevations. These factors contribute to the expectation of minimal future fire growth, allowing firefighters to maintain control and continue their suppression activities.
