Wildfire Status:

As of September 22, the Flat Top and Firestone Fires in Oregon have made significant progress in containment, with Firestone Fire at 90% and Flat Top Fire at 86%. The Firestone Fire has burned approximately 9,454 acres, while the Flat Top Fire has spread over 36,288 acres. Command of the incidents is set to transition from the Northwest Complex Incident Management Team 3 to a Type 4 Incident Commander, indicating a shift towards more localized management as containment efforts continue.

Currently, 118 personnel are engaged in firefighting operations, focusing on securing the fire's perimeter and minimizing further spread. The weather is a critical factor, with near-critical fire weather conditions reported. Relative humidity levels have dropped to around 18-23%, and afternoon temperatures have reached the low 70s. Winds from the north-northeast are contributing to fire behavior, generating gusts of 14-17 mph.

Planned actions in the coming days include burn operations aimed at reinforcing containment lines and mopping up along primary lines. Fire crews are also working to protect critical infrastructure, including power lines and grazing allotments. Despite the warm and dry conditions, minimal fire growth is expected due to the existing containment efforts. The estimated containment date for the fires is projected to be September 30, 2024, although updates will only be provided if significant changes occur.
