Wildfire Status:

The Two Cabin Fire, currently part of the Fossil Complex, is actively burning approximately 4 miles northeast of Monument, Oregon. As of September 7, 2024, the fire has consumed around 251 acres and is only 5% contained. The incident began on September 3, 2024, and is currently under the management of the Oregon Department of Forestry Incident Management Team 2. Active fire behavior is noted, with significant flanking, backing, and isolated torching observed. The terrain in the area is conducive to fire growth, which poses ongoing challenges for containment efforts.

In response to the fire, a total of 147 personnel are engaged in firefighting efforts. Planned actions include scouting for potential containment lines, constructing those lines, and conducting burnout operations where conditions permit. Firefighters are also assisting in protecting nearby structures as necessary. The immediate outlook indicates that the fire is expected to continue moving southeast toward Steet Mountain, although containment actions are limiting the spread.

Weather conditions are currently a concern, with high pressure leading to temperatures in the mid-80s to mid-90s, and humidity levels dropping into the low to mid-teens. Winds are predominantly from the northeast, contributing to the dry and unstable atmosphere. The forecast suggests ongoing hot and dry conditions, but there is a slight chance of rain showers moving into the area over the weekend, which could provide some relief. However, the fire weather remains critical due to the prevailing heat and low humidity.
