Wildfire Status:

The Two Cabin Fire, currently active in Oregon, has burned approximately 251 acres and is reported to be only 5% contained. This wildfire is part of the larger Fossil Complex and has been under the management of the Oregon Department of Forestry's Incident Management Team 2 since it ignited on September 3, 2024. The fire's location is approximately four miles northeast of Monument, Oregon, and the cause is still under investigation. Active fire behavior has been noted, with significant events including flanking, backing, and isolated torching, indicating that the fire is still dynamic and influenced by the surrounding terrain.

A total of 147 personnel are currently engaged in firefighting efforts. The planned actions include scouting for potential containment line locations, constructing and holding fire lines, and conducting burnout operations to remove unburned fuels adjacent to these lines. The fire is expected to continue moving southeast towards Briley Mountain, with containment efforts aimed at limiting its growth.

Weather conditions are a significant concern, as a ridge of high pressure has contributed to hot and dry conditions, with temperatures reaching the mid-80s to mid-90s. Afternoon humidity levels have dropped to the low to mid-teens, and northeast winds are prevalent. The forecast indicates that while the weather will remain hot and dry for another day, a slight chance of rain may occur over the weekend, which could aid firefighting efforts. However, the unstable atmosphere and critical fire weather conditions remain a challenge for responders.
