Hobson Fire (NVELD)

Wildfire Status:

The Hobson Fire, which is currently 100-percent contained, has burned a total of 1,080 acres of pinyon-pine, juniper, brush, grass, and light logging slash. The fire ignited due to lightning and was first reported on August 18, 2024, around 2:40 p.m. It is located approximately 45 miles northwest of Ely, Nevada. Currently, fire behavior is minimal, with the focus on securing and mopping up the fire line by the firefighting teams.

As of the latest report, 26 personnel are actively engaged in the response efforts, which include continuing to secure depth and mop up along the fire lines. The incident is being managed by Incident Commander Thomas McCollum, who is overseeing the operations. The current weather conditions pose some challenges, as the area is experiencing dry conditions with high winds and low relative humidity, which can influence fire behavior, although it is stated that the fire itself is smoldering at this time.

Firefighters are expected to remain engaged in mop-up tactics, ensuring that the fire is fully extinguished and that no flare-ups occur. The estimated containment date is set for August 23, 2024, as crews work diligently to finalize their efforts and secure the area against any potential re-ignition.
