The Hobson Fire, which ignited due to lightning, spans 1,080 acres and is currently 100 percent contained as of August 19, 2024. Fire behavior has been minimal, with crews focusing on securing and mopping up the fire lines. The fire affected areas of pinyon-pine and juniper as well as brush, grass, and light logging slash on public lands located approximately 45 miles northwest of Ely, Nevada.

Firefighting efforts have involved a total of 26 personnel, with an emphasis on mopping up and securing the perimeter. The incident commander, Thomas McCollum, is overseeing the containment efforts, which are projected to conclude by August 23, 2024.
