Wildfire Status:
The Grassy Mountain Fire, which occurred on public lands approximately 30 miles northwest of Pioche, Nevada, has reached 100-percent containment after burning 268 acres. The fire ignited from a lightning strike and was first reported on August 21. Currently, firefighters are focused on securing the fire’s edge and conducting mop-up operations along control lines to ensure that no flare-ups occur.
As of now, a total of 23 personnel are involved in the response efforts, with minimal fire behavior being reported—primarily smoldering. The incident is being managed by Incident Commander Frank Goodson from the BLM Ely District. The planned actions include further securing the edges of the fire and enhancing control lines to prevent any potential re-ignition.
Weather conditions are a concern, as a Red Flag Warning is in effect until 11 p.m. tonight. This warning highlights the possibility of critical fire weather conditions that could impact firefighting efforts.
