Wildfire Status:
The East Fork Wildfire in the Jemez District of the Santa Fe National Forest was reported on March 28, 2025, and was ignited by a lightning strike. Fire personnel quickly responded to the incident, which was located near Trail 137 in the Old Cajete burned area and visible from upper Highway 4. The fire was successfully contained at just 1 acre on March 29, 2025, and efforts to mop up and secure the perimeter continued through March 30 and 31. Currently, the fire is fully contained, and there are no active threats.
In terms of response, the Santa Fe National Forest's fire management team, along with the La Cueva Volunteer Fire Department, were instrumental in addressing the situation promptly. The teams focused on securing the fire's perimeter and addressing any smoldering stump holes to prevent flare-ups.
