Wildfire Status:
The Antone Fire, caused by lightning, is currently active in the San Antone Canyon area of the Quemado Ranger District, covering approximately 12,396 acres. The fire has reached a 91% containment level, with fire behavior characterized by minimal activity, primarily creeping and smoldering. The fire continues to move within its interior as unburned pockets ignite, but no significant perimeter expansion has been reported. Firefighting efforts are being managed with a confine and contain strategy, utilizing both direct and indirect suppression methods to protect values at risk in the surrounding area.
A total of 72 personnel are currently assigned to the incident, with a focus on holding key roads to prevent further spread. The fire's management is particularly attentive to the direction of fire movement, especially as weather conditions evolve. Recent precipitation has moderated fire behavior, but as the forecast predicts extremely dry conditions with low relative humidity values, the risk of increased fire activity remains. Winds are expected to be light, but gusts could reach 20-25 mph in the afternoons, which could influence fire dynamics.
Fire agencies are actively monitoring the situation and making adjustments to their strategies in response to changing weather patterns. The incident commander, John DiGiando, along with his trainee, Ty Oliver, is overseeing the operations to ensure the safety of both the firefighters and the local community. Continued vigilance is essential as conditions may change, potentially leading to increased fire behavior and necessitating further resource allocation to maintain containment efforts.
