Yeso Fire
Wildfire Status:
The Yeso Fire, located in Mesa del Yeso, is currently being indirectly suppressed by Carson National Forest fire managers. Crews are using a "confine and contain" strategy to manage the fire within a 650-acre footprint, allowing it to play its natural role in the ecosystem. There are no current evacuations or closures associated with the fire, although visitors and residents may observe smoke in the area. The fire, caused by lightning and first reported on July 9, is burning southeast of Canjilon, N.M., and northeast of Ghost Ranch.
The fire is currently 100% contained within its perimeter, with crews working to increase containment further. The fuel involved in the fire is primarily Ponderosa Pine. The current weather concerns for the area include current and forecasted showers and thunderstorms, which could impact the fire's behavior and containment efforts. Fire agencies are actively monitoring the weather conditions and adjusting their response accordingly to manage the fire effectively.
