Banana Lake Fire (MTMTS)

Wildfire Status:

The Banana Lake Fire, located four miles north of Plains, Montana, was first reported on May 31, 2025, at 4:25 p.m. The fire has consumed approximately 833 acres of open timber and is currently under a full suppression strategy. As of June 6, the fire is 40% contained, with fire agencies employing a range of resources including 17 engines, 2 helicopters, 2 Type 2 hand crews, and multiple support units. The Western Montana Type 3 Incident Management Team took over command of the incident on June 2, and as of now, there are no evacuations or road closures in effect.

Firefighting efforts are robust, with 235 personnel actively working to contain the blaze. Despite the ongoing efforts, the cause of the fire remains undetermined and is under investigation. Weather conditions in the area have been challenging, contributing to the fire's spread. Fire officials have noted that fire danger levels are elevated, prompting restrictions on outdoor burning in Sanders County, effective from June 5, 2025. These restrictions indicate a heightened risk of fire spread in the region, emphasizing the need for caution among local residents and outdoor enthusiasts.
