Silvertip Fire Active 2026

The Silvertip Fire was started by lightning in the Spotted Bear Ranger District of the Flathead National Forest, approximately 15 miles southeast of Spotted Bear Ranger Station, near Silvertip Mountain. The fire was detected by aircraft on July 24, 2026 while conducting recon on another reported fire. The fire moved through heavy timber on steep slopes with standing dead and down trees.

The Silvertip Area Closure was lifted September 5, 2026 and replaced with a trail closure of Silvertip Creek Trail #89 and Limestone Peak Trail #435. About 25 miles of backcountry trail remain directly impacted by fire. Significant hazards remain in these areas despite over 0.5" of rainfall.
