Wildfire Status:

The Vanity Fire, which ignited on September 3 due to lightning, is currently active and located approximately 37 miles west of Challis, Idaho. As of now, the fire has burned around 600 acres and is fully contained, with 100% of its perimeter secured. There are no road closures in effect as the previous road closure has been lifted, allowing for normal access to the area.

Fire agencies have reported that only one personnel is currently assigned to monitor the situation, with updates on the fire's status scheduled every Monday in the Salmon-Challis National Forest Fire Summary or sooner if significant changes occur. The estimated containment date for the fire is set for October 31, 2024.

Weather conditions in the region are expected to be dry through much of the weekend due to high pressure, with temperatures rising to about 10 degrees above normal. However, a low pressure system is anticipated to move in by Sunday, bringing cooler temperatures along with light rain and potential snow showers in the area. These changing weather patterns may affect the fire’s behavior and the ongoing management efforts.
