Wildfire Status:

The Thunder Fire started on July 24 approximately 2 miles northwest of Williams Lake on the Salmon-Cobalt Ranger District. The fire is currently being managed by the local unit, with resources including two engines and overhead personnel. Firefighters are focused on mop up operations and working on hot spots within the fire perimeter. The fire is 100% contained with minimal activity, mainly smoldering.

Currently, there is only 1 personnel assigned to the fire, which spans 2,474 acres. The estimated containment date is set for September 30, 2024. The fuels involved in the fire include timber (litter and understory) and short grass. The planned actions moving forward involve continued patrol of the fire, as the fire is already contained.

Weather concerns include isolated to scattered thunderstorms expected today and Saturday, with outflow wind gusts up to 40 mph possible near thunderstorms. Fire agencies are monitoring these weather conditions closely to ensure they do not exacerbate the fire situation.
