Red Rock Fire (IDSCF)

Wildfire Status:

The Red Rock Fire, detected on September 2, 2024, is currently active and has grown to approximately 3,055 acres, with only 14% of its perimeter contained. Located about two miles east of the Yellowjacket Guard Station within the Salmon-Cobalt Ranger District, the fire is predominantly burning through Douglas fir and lodgepole pine. Firefighters have made progress in constructing direct handlines and mop-up operations, particularly in the northwestern area, enhancing containment efforts.

In response to the fire, a total of 286 personnel are engaged in firefighting efforts under the command of Rocky Opliger from the California Interagency Incident Management Team 4. The fire's cause has been attributed to lightning, and the estimated date for full containment is set for October 31, 2024. Ground crews have been working hard along key roads, utilizing hose lays to strengthen containment lines.
