Red Rock Fire (IDSCF)

Wildfire Status:

The Red Rock Fire, located approximately two miles east of the Yellowjacket Guard Station in Idaho, was detected on September 2, 2024. The fire has burned through an area of 79,260 acres primarily consisting of Douglas fir and lodgepole pine. As of the latest update, the fire is fully contained, with 100% of its perimeter secured. Fire activity has diminished significantly, transitioning the incident to a status of smoldering with minimal fire behavior.

Fire agencies have implemented a comprehensive suppression strategy that includes both containment and confinement tactics. Containment efforts focus on establishing control lines to prevent the fire's spread, while confinement utilizes natural features such as ridges and burn scars to limit growth. The current weather conditions have been favorable, contributing to the reduced fire activity and prompting an optimistic outlook for complete containment by November 3, 2024.

As of now, only one personnel remains on site, monitoring the situation. The fire's primary fuels—grass, small downed logs, and conifer understory—are currently in a stable condition, with grass having fully cured. The outlook indicates that no significant fire behavior is expected due to the prevailing weather patterns, which are unlikely to cause further drying. Fire officials continue to prioritize the protection of critical assets and ensure the safety of both the public and firefighting crews as they transition towards recovery and repair efforts in the affected area.
