Wildfire Status:

The Paddock Fire, which ignited on August 5, 2024, due to lightning, is currently located approximately 20 miles north of Emmett, Idaho. The fire has reached a size of 187,185 acres and is reported to be 100% contained as of August 10. While suppression efforts were initially hindered by challenging weather, terrain, and extremely dry fuels, ongoing monitoring and damage repair activities are now a priority for the incident management team, led by Incident Commanders Nate Budd and Kyle McQuillin.

Firefighting resources remain deployed with a total of 93 personnel currently assigned to the incident. Their focus is on holding and patrolling the fire's perimeter, ensuring that it remains within its existing boundaries. Minimal heat has been detected, allowing crews to concentrate on suppression repair efforts and protecting natural and cultural resources in the area. Although containment is achieved, fire agencies continue to prioritize public and firefighter safety and the protection of property.

Weather conditions are a significant concern as forecasts indicate that Saturday will be the most critical day for fire weather, characterized by extreme mixing heights and steep low-level lapse rates. High ventilation rates and unstable conditions are expected, with temperatures rising sharply and relative humidity dropping. While the area meets the criteria for a Red Flag Warning, the fire weather setup requires close monitoring. The warm and dry conditions are projected to persist into the following week, although there is a slight chance of storms primarily to the east of the incident area.
