The lightning caused Washington Fire was discovered on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. Firefighters are working to fully suppress the fire, with the top priority being the safety of both the public and firefighters.
On Friday, August 15, 2025 at 0600, the management of the Washington Fire transitioned to Southwest Incident Management Team 1, led by Incident Commander, Carl Schwope.
On August 19, 2025 the team assisted with the response to a new lightning caused fire on the Tonto. That became the Sheep Spring FIre and was transitioned to Southwest Incident Management Team 1 on August 20, 2025.
Both fires were transitioned to local Type 3 teams on August 23 at 0600.
Sheep Spring Fire transitioned back to the local unit (Type 5) and was placed in monitor and patrol status as of August 25 at 4 p.m.
