Latest update
Background: The Dragon Bravo Fire began on July 4, 2025, from a lightning strike on the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. Firefighters and suppression resources responded quickly, constructing containment lines.
On the evening of July 11, strong northwest wind gusts—uncommon for the area—pushed the fire beyond containment features, resulting in significant growth. Limited nighttime visibility prevented aerial retardant and water drops; however, ground crews and air resources continued aggressive suppression efforts during the day, focusing on areas with the highest probability of success. The fire was being managed under a full suppression strategy. Hot temperatures, low relative humidity, and ongoing strong winds continued to drive very active fire behavior. Facilities in the North Rim developed area were impacted.
Crews are making strong progress on suppression repair, restoring disturbed land by dismantling dozer piles, stabilizing soil, and reestablishing vegetation. A top priority remains removing hazard trees along Highway 67 and main routes into the North Rim to ensure safety.
The fire was called 100% contained on Sept. 28, 2025. The North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park partially reopened to the public on Oct. 1, 2025.
