Pincer Two Fire (WAMSF)

Wildfire Status:

The Pincer Two Fire, ignited by lightning on July 17, 2024, is currently active and burning on Johannesburg Mountain, located one mile east of Mineral Park Campground. As of September 20, 2024, the fire has grown to an estimated size of 211 acres but remains completely uncontained. Fire agencies have deployed a total of 15 personnel to manage the situation. Despite the ongoing fire, there have been no reported damages to structures or evacuations required in the surrounding areas.

Weather conditions have been relatively stable, contributing to the fire's persistence without significant containment. The fire is burning in rugged terrain with abundant timber, which poses challenges for fire management efforts. Authorities have lifted the closure on Cascade River Road and associated trails as the fire does not currently pose a risk to visitors. However, smoke may still be visible in the area, and fire officials are monitoring the situation closely. It is expected that the fire will continue to burn until substantial rainfall occurs in the region.

As a precaution, fire agencies have issued safety tips for those recreating in fire-impacted areas, advising against camping near dead or fire-impacted trees and recommending caution during high winds due to the risk of falling trees. The current outlook projects that the fire may remain active until at least October 31, 2024, when it is anticipated that sufficient rainfall will help extinguish it.
