Swawilla Fire
Wildfire Status:
The Swawilla Fire, initiated by lightning on July 17th, 2024, is currently 98% contained and estimated at 53,462 acres. Level 3 evacuations for the town of Keller have been lowered to Level 2 along the Hwy. 21 corridor north to Cache Creek. Major roadways surrounding the fire are now open. The fire is being managed by 401 personnel under the leadership of Incident Commander Charlie Patterson.
The current weather conditions include warm and dry weather with a slight chance of thunderstorm activity, potentially leading to erratic, gusting outflow winds. The planned actions include patrolling all divisions to maintain containment lines, along with continued suppression repair and backhauling of necessary equipment and supplies. Over the next 72 hours, the fire is expected to remain within containment lines, burning and cleaning up interior pockets of fuels.
The Southern Area CIMT 2 (Blue Team) is scheduled to transfer command of the fire to a Type 3 IMT on August 8, 2024. The outlook for the fire includes active surface fire in the interior of northern portions within the next 12 hours, with the fire expected to remain within containment lines over the next few days as it continues to burn and clean up interior pockets of fuels.
