2024 North Zone Complex (VAVAF)

Wildfire Status:

The 2024 North Zone Complex wildfire in the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests and on state and private land in West Virginia and Virginia is currently 100% contained. The fires included in the complex, such as Waterfall Mountain, Waites Run, Capon/Brush Run, Edith Gap/Serenity Ridge, and Cove Mountain Fires, have been monitored and patrolled until declared out. The incident command has been transferred to a local Type 3 Team led by Incident Commander Colten Moor, with plans to hand command back to the local unit soon.

Weather conditions remain unsettled with multiple rounds of showers and storms impacting the region. Cold fronts are expected to bring windy conditions lasting through the weekend, with high pressure building overhead early next week. Closure orders for all areas in the North Zone Complex are still in effect, with the local district assessing conditions to determine when it is safe to reopen areas to the public. Continuation of suppression repair and rehabilitation plans by the BAER Team will address damage to natural drainages and structures in the burned areas. Public and firefighter safety is emphasized, and the public is advised to avoid active fire areas and not to fly drones near wildfires to ensure safe firefighting operations.
