Silver King Fire (UTFIF)

Wildfire Status:

The Silver King Fire, which ignited on July 5, 2024, approximately three miles west of Marysvale, Utah, is currently active and has burned an area of 18,222 acres. The fire, attributed to a natural cause from a lightning strike, is primarily consuming heavy timber, Pinyon-Juniper, sagebrush, and grass. As of now, 88% of the fire's perimeter is contained, and fire management is being conducted by the Great Basin Complex Incident Management Team 2, which is employing full suppression, confine/contain, and value protection strategies.

Fire agencies have deployed a total of 157 personnel to combat the blaze. Current incident objectives emphasize the safety of the public and firefighting crews, ensuring water quality protection in nearby watersheds, and minimizing damage to private properties and critical infrastructure. Firefighters are utilizing natural barriers and constructed features to enhance suppression efforts while maintaining strong communication with local communities.

Weather conditions are currently influenced by a ridge of high pressure, which is expected to remain until Saturday, favoring terrain-driven winds. Afternoon gusts may reach up to 20 mph but are not anticipated to pose a significant threat. The region may see the development of thunderstorms, with a slight chance of isolated dry showers. By the weekend, increased moisture is expected, which may lead to improved relative humidity levels and a higher chance of wetting rain, potentially aiding in suppression efforts. Fire crews are actively monitoring and mopping up problematic areas while preparing for the changing weather conditions.
