Wildfire Status:
The Nugent Complex wildfire ignited on August 7, 2024, approximately 13 miles southeast of Anson, Texas in Jones County. The fire quickly spread in dry grass, juniper, and oak with active fire behavior, including torching, with temperatures near 108 degrees. Crews are currently focused on life safety operations, structure protection, and creating containment lines where possible. Texas A&M Forest Service has mobilized fire boss single engine airtankers to assist ground crews by dropping water to slow progression and cool the active fire edge. The fire has affected 475 acres and is 100% contained as of August 8, 2024. The fire has destroyed 3 homes and 4 outbuildings during the initial response. The current weather conditions include temperatures reaching around 108 degrees, with winds shifting from east/southeast to east/northeast, and the possibility of isolated showers and thunderstorms.
