North Art Complex (TXTXS)

Wildfire Status:

The North Art Complex wildfire, which ignited on August 22, 2024, approximately 7 miles east of Mason, Texas, has now reached 100% containment as of August 25, 2024. The fire burned through a mix of oak, juniper, and mesquite with grass understory, affecting a total area of 4,313 acres. The cause of the fire has been determined to be lightning. Fortunately, there were no reported damages to structures, and no mandatory evacuations were necessary during the incident.

The response to the North Art Complex fire involved local fire departments initially, who called for additional assistance from the Texas A&M Forest Service on the day the fire started. Crews utilized heavy equipment to establish containment lines, effectively clearing combustible materials to prevent further spread. Firefighters worked diligently along these lines to extinguish active flames and monitor hotspots. Aerial support was provided on the first two days to aid in controlling the fire and ensuring the safety of the surrounding areas.

Current weather conditions have favored firefighting efforts, with minimal fire behavior observed recently, including only creeping and smoldering. Fire crews have completed their patrols and mop-up operations, returning control of the area back to local authorities.
