Wildfire Status:
The Midway Pasture Fire started on August 15th, 2024, approximately 15 miles south of Vernon, Texas. Local fire departments responded and requested assistance from Texas A&M Forest Service to provide additional engines and heavy equipment. Texas A&M Forest Service is working with local fire departments in unified command to suppress the fire. Crews are using heavy equipment to construct containment lines around the perimeter to stop further spread. Engines are working along these lines to extinguish active flames and prevent the fire from crossing back over the containment lines.
As of the latest update, the fire has consumed 1,128 acres and 100% of the perimeter is contained. The fuels involved in the fire include grass and dispersed Mesquite. The current weather conditions pose concerns, with excessive heat expected and light south to southwest winds. The minimum relative humidity is forecasted to be near 25% by the afternoon. Fire agencies are actively monitoring the weather conditions and working to ensure the fire does not escalate further.
