Klett Fire
Wildfire Status:
The Klett Fire, which began on March 4, 2025, in Blanco County, is currently active and has burned approximately 101 acres. As of the latest update, the fire is reported to be fully contained, with 100% of its perimeter secured. Initially, local fire departments responded to the incident, but due to the rapid growth of the fire, the Texas A&M Forest Service was called in for additional support, providing firefighters and heavy equipment to assist in containment efforts. The fire is under the unified command of the Texas A&M Forest Service alongside local agencies.
Firefighting crews are working diligently to protect structures in the vicinity of the fire and are engaged in constructing containment lines using bulldozers. The fire has posed significant challenges due to extreme fire weather conditions, which included high temperatures, low humidity, and strong winds. On the day of the fire's outbreak, these factors contributed to the rapid expansion of the flames, making control efforts difficult.
Current weather conditions remain concerning, with sustained westerly winds of 25 to 30 mph and gusts reaching up to 50 mph expected to continue into the evening. Relative humidity levels are low, around 13%, which exacerbates fire risks. Although winds are anticipated to decrease overnight, they will shift direction, and humidity will only marginally improve. Fire crews are expected to continue mopping up hotspots around the perimeter as conditions allow. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
