Duke Fire (TXTXS)

Wildfire Status:

The Duke Fire, which ignited on March 4th, 2025, in south Bexar County, Texas, has been successfully contained at 244 acres, achieving 100% perimeter containment. The response to the fire was initially managed by local fire departments, but the Texas A&M Forest Service was called in for additional support. They provided extra firefighters and heavy equipment to assist in constructing containment lines and protecting nearby structures. As of March 5th, all evacuation orders that were previously in place have been lifted, allowing residents to return home safely.

The fire broke out during a period of extreme fire risk characterized by high temperatures, low humidity, and strong winds, which contributed to rapid fire spread and made control efforts challenging. Fire crews faced significant obstacles, but they worked diligently to safeguard the public and property in the area. The cause of the fire remains undetermined and is currently under investigation.

Current weather conditions continue to pose challenges, with elevated to near critical fire weather concerns noted. Winds from the north are expected to be breezy, ranging from 10-15 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph. As relative humidity levels drop below 20%, there is a forecast for elevated fire weather conditions to persist, particularly with breezy southerly winds expected to develop in the days following the fire's containment. Fire agencies remain vigilant as they monitor the situation and prepare for potential flare-ups.
