Diamond Complex (ORUPF)

Wildfire Status:

The Diamond Complex, located in the Umpqua National Forest of Oregon, consists of 33 fires that ignited on July 19, 2024. As of September 19, 2024, the complex has burned approximately 11,141 acres, with 86% of its perimeter contained. The incident is being managed by the California Interagency Incident Management Team 14, which assumed command on September 13, 2024. Current operations are focused on post-fire repairs to containment lines and infrastructure to mitigate erosion and downstream impacts.

Recent weather has provided some relief to firefighting efforts, with a weak wet weather system passing through the area, which helped moderate fire activity. However, as the weather clears and temperatures rise, there is potential for some re-emergence of heat in smoldering areas, particularly in deep duff and stump holes. The forecast indicates a transition to fair weather with temperatures expected to rise into the 60s, leading to drier conditions over the coming days. Afternoon relative humidity levels are projected to drop into the 30% range, but good overnight recoveries are expected.

Fire personnel, totaling 362, are engaged in various planned actions, including patrols to mop up hotspots, backhauling equipment, and assessing containment statuses. There are ongoing efforts to monitor nearby fire activities, such as the Fuller Fire on the Homestead Complex. The predominant fuel type involved in the fire includes mixed conifer timber, with additional concerns about residual smoldering activity as the weather dries. Overall, while the current fire threat has decreased, vigilance will be necessary as conditions continue to evolve.
