Mount Irish Fire (NVELD)

Wildfire Status:

The Mount Irish Fire, located approximately 30 miles east of Rachel, Nevada, has grown to a size of 6,311 acres since its ignition on June 30, 2025. Currently, the fire is active and has not yet achieved any containment, with 0% of its perimeter secured. Conditions have been challenging for firefighting efforts, as the fire exhibited extreme behavior driven by strong, gusty winds, leading to rapid, wind-driven runs across the landscape. This has resulted in hazardous conditions for direct suppression efforts, with flames transitioning into the tree canopy and creating crown fire behavior.

A total of 228 personnel are currently assigned to combat the Mount Irish Fire, under the command of the Bureau of Land Management. Firefighters are actively working to establish control lines and manage the fire's spread, utilizing crews, engines, and dozers. Aerial bucket operations are also taking place, particularly near telecommunication towers, to help cool hotspots and support ground operations. The estimated date for containment is set for July 11, 2025, as crews continue to hold existing lines and construct new ones.

Current weather conditions pose both challenges and potential relief for firefighting efforts. Waves of thunderstorms are expected to bring periods of strong, erratic wind gusts, although there are increased chances for meaningful rainfall. As the day progresses, drier air will move in, limiting thunderstorm development, with only isolated storm activity anticipated by Thursday. Given the current conditions, significant fire growth remains likely, particularly with the expected wind-driven runs.
